Enameling

Enamel is a mixture of finely ground glass and mineral additives, which is melted down at approx. 800°C. In roughly 20 procedural steps a base coat of four individual layers of enamel is applied onto a metal foundation. 24-carat gold or white-gold powder is then applied by hand and fused into the enamel. With several processes of firing, the 24ct gold and the enamel colors fuse with the prime coat of each piece.

Each enamel color is sequentially applied. From 12 to 20 different colors are used for any one design.
